Although the heart and soul of Schott Textiles has always been cotton & blended industrial fabric, the Schott brothers have made steady progress incorporating Synthetic Fabrics into their inventory. Synthetic Fabrics are fabrics that are made out of manufactured fibers that are not naturally occurring.
These fabrics include, but are not limited to; solid color Denier Nylons and Polyesters as well as generic forms of camouflage.
Synthetic Fabrics are traditionally used in outdoor or high abrasion applications. These fabrics are used in the manufacturing of boots, gun cases, hunting blinds, snowmobile covers, boat covers, backpacks, flags, laundry bags, tote bags etc.
Every application requires a different weight, based on denier. The term Denier, is a unit of measure equal to the weight in grams of 9,000 meters of yarn. The smaller the Denier the finer the fabric. Schott Textiles has focused their efforts on 1000, 500, 400, 200 & 70 Denier fabrics in both Nylon and Polyester.
Synthetic Fabrics are created through a process called polymerization where chemicals from coal, plastic or natural gases are forced through spinnerets and when exposed to air actually create fibers.
These fibers are then dyed and in the vast majority of cases, a Polyurethane Coating (PU) is applied to the backside to stabilize the fabric. This is in conjunction with a Durable Water Repellant Treatment (DWRT) which is introduced to the face of the fabric to make these fabrics highly water resistant. Additionally, other chemicals can be added to soften the hand/feel of the fabric, make it stain resistant and so forth.
